A 65-year-old contractor with a civic agency was found dead with multiple stab injuries in a godown in Bawana here on Sunday. Jaypal is survived by his wife.

According to the police, the Bawana resident had gone to a crematorium near his house to attend the last rites of a child in the family.

Bleeding profusely

“His family was at the ghat when he was seen leaving around 5 a.m. He was returning home when he was stabbed near the Bawana canal. A relative found him bleeding profusely,” said a senior police officer.

The relative informed the police, after which a team took Mr. Jaypal to a nearby hospital. However, he was declared brought dead.

While the suspect is yet to be identified, prima facie it appears to be a case of personal enmity, the police said, adding that robbery as a motive angle was ruled out since the victim’s mobile phone, wallet and other valuables were left untouched by the assailant.

Since the couple did not have children, the police suspect he may also have been murdered due to inheritance issues.

“Preliminary probe has revealed that he had adopted a person from his extended family. Miffed over transfer of property to his adopted son, his family suspects he was killed over property dispute,” he said.

The doctors told the police that his death was most likely caused due to the stab injuries. A case of murder has been registered at Bawana police station.
