Bloodstained rod found on spot; police say victim was a drug addict

A 21-year-old man was found murdered on the terrace of his house in Ghaziabad’s Loni in the small hours of Friday, the police said.

Multiple injuries were found on his body, they added, suspecting that he was attacked with an iron rod which was found with at the spot.

They have recovered the bloodstained rod.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons, the police said.

Parents detained

The victim’s parents have been detained for questioning as they are the prime suspects in the case, they added.

The deceased, Ashfaq, a resident of Pooja Colony in Loni was working in a pharmaceutical company, the police said.

“On Thursday night, Ashfaq had gone to terrace to sleep. The body was first spotted by his father at around 5 a.m. who then informed the police. The family has registered a complaint against four or five unidentified persons. We have registered an First Information Report [FIR] and investigations are under way,” said Arvind Maurya, Superintendent of police (Rural), Ghaziabad.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, the officer added.

“During initial investigation, it was revealed that Ashfaq was a drug addict and used to often quarrel with his parents and younger siblings for no reason. His father owns a fruit stall in the nearby market. We have detained the deceased’s father and other suspected persons for questioning and are trying to cover all possible angles in the case,” Mr. Maurya said.

Ashfaq had fight with his siblings on Thursday night after which his father got angry and kille him, the neighbours alleged.
