A key member of an inter-State gun racket was arrested by the Delhi Police while he was on an assignment to deliver a consignment of guns on Friday. The police have recovered 30 semi-automatic pistols along with a carbine (stengun) and five live cartridges.
Brother also involved
The accused has been identified as 35-year-old Rajpal, brother of gun racketeer Richhpal Singh who has allegedly been involved in manufacturing and supplying of illegal arms for years. “He was arrested from near the gate of Millennium DTC Depot near Nizamuddin Bridge after a brief scuffle,” said Deputy Commissioner or Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
The police nabbed him after receiving information on his arrival in Delhi around 4 p.m. He was carrying a bag when he reached the depot, where he waited for 30 minutes before moving towards Akshardham temple. The police surrounded him as he moved. That’s when he took out a pistol and threatened to fire. However, he was arrested from the spot.
Missed delivery
Rajpal, resident of Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, told the police that he has been working for his brother for over 7 years and has come to Delhi five times to supply firearms in the last six months. He also allegedly told the police that he was supposed to deliver these pistols last week but failed to do so because of a marriage in the family.
“He further disclosed that even after the arrest of many of his carriers/associates, Richhpal Singh continued sending firearms in Delhi and adjoining states,” said Mr. Yadav.
