The Delhi Police arrested a repeat offender and four members of his gang members on July 2 for their alleged involvement in inter-State carjacking cases.

The police have recovered six cars and two country-made pistols with one live cartridge.

Manish alias Golu allegedly told the police that he was released from jail in January and was instigated by Sanjay Rathi and Mahaveer alias Pawan Pandit to commit robberies to make easy money.

He allegedly roped in Abhivak, Manish, Hariom and Ravindra as accomplices. The gang members were arrested later based on inputs by Golu.

Cheating and robbery

“Golu started committing crimes in 2015, and was initially booked for cheating and robbery. He was later involved in a robbery case at Panipat and a motorcycle theft at Kundli. After his release from jail in January, he started committing robberies once again,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rishi Pal.

The police claimed to have nabbed the accused after examining CCTV footage from cameras installed at the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation area, where incidents of carjacking were on the rise.

“Five cases of carjacking and four cases of motor vehicle theft have been solved with these arrests,” said Mr. Pal.
