A major fire broke out at east-Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill on Saturday evening. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The reason for the fire could not be ascertained, said a fire department official.
The official said that the call was made at 5.48 p.m. after which fire tenders were pressed into service.
“While the exact area affected was not known, the spokesperson said that the fire had spread over a large part of the landfill. Five fire tenders have been dispatched and were trying to bring the blaze under control,” he said at 9 p.m.
Locals said that the traffic on the NH-24 was causing problems for the fire tenders to reach the spot.
However, the official denied any such problem.
The landfill hit the headlines last month when a part of it collapsed leaving two people dead and several vehicles trapped.
