Major child trafficking racket busted in Delhi

February 05, 2016 10:28 am | Updated 10:28 am IST - New Delhi:

A major child trafficking gang has been busted in Delhi with the arrest of 10 persons already within 12 hours of operation that began Thursday night.

Police said they have also rescued a one-year-old child who was kidnapped from North-West Delhi's Swaroop Nagar on Tuesday. Two motorcycle-borne men had just swooped in on the child playing near his labourer parents and had sped away.

Police said the boy was safely rescued on Thursday night and the subsequent investigations went on to reveal a major racket in which the children were being sold.

Initially two persons were arrested in the operation that began at 8 pm on Thursday. By Friday morning, police had arrested 10 persons, including two women, in this connection. More arrests are likely, said Vijay Singh, DCP (North-West).

The gang is learnt to be operating at least one year from now. They have already admitted to kidnapping and selling three children, the earliest being a year back from RK Puram in South Delhi. Further investigation into the racket is on.
