Low turnout in first three hours of polling

State Election Commissioner S.K. Srivastava said that polling was going on smoothly all around the city.

Polling in the elections to the municipal corporations of Delhi on Sunday started off slow, with about 9 per cent turnout in the first three hours after voting began at 8 a.m.

As per the Delhi State Election Commission, turnout at 11 a.m. was 9.11 per cent of the total registered voters. Of the 1.33 crore voters, 12.14 lakh had cast their votes as of 11 a.m. The low turnout was expected, with voters likely to line up post-lunch and in the evening.

State Election Commissioner S.K. Srivastava said that polling was going on smoothly all around the city. Earlier on, there were some troubles in Mangolpuri in North Delhi, where the EVMs had to be replaced as they did not work properly.

Among those who turned up to vote early were Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who voted along with his family in Civil Lines.
