The Delhi Transco Limited, which takes care of transmission lines, has some good news for the residents of North-West Delhi who have been facing long and unscheduled power cuts after five towers of the Bawana-Rohini line 220 kV were damaged by the storm that struck the city on May 30.
On Tuesday, the DTL managed to restore the Bawana-Rohini line through the emergency restoration system. Five towers of this line were damaged after which the load was transferred to other transmission lines.
“There will be enough redundancy to meet the load now. There should be decrease in the quantum of load shedding,” said a DTL spokesperson.
The power crisis plaguing the city is mainly precipitated by the damage done to the Capital’s ‘power lifeline’ — the DTL’s 400/220 kV network connecting grid stations of Dadri, Mandola, Bawana, Bamnauli and Narela — during the thunder storm. Besides, over 1,000 trees fell on the power network damaging several hundreds of electricity poles.
Power cut has also happening since there is no cooling period for the electric instruments, which get heated up due to continuous overloading when temperatures do not come down even during morning or night.
Meanwhile, over 20 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs staged a protest outside Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan’s house in East Delhi on Tuesday demanding urgent steps by the Centre to improve electricity supply in the city.
Senior leader Manish Sisodia said it was the responsibility of the Centre to ensure proper governance including facilitating basic amenities to the people in the city as Delhi is currently under Central rule.
“The BJP is in power at the Centre and Dr. Vardhan is a Union Minister as well as the Delhi BJP President. It is the responsibility of the ruling party to address the problem of power supply in Delhi. That is why we have come here,” said Mr. Sisodia, who led the AAP MLAs to Dr. Vardhan’s house.
