The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government must provide special buses for Delhi University (DU) students and give concessional rates to them on the Metro, Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said on Monday.
The BJP leader also questioned why U-Special buses, flagged off before the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections in 2015, were withdrawn immediately after the Chhatra Yuva Sanghrash Samiti (CYSS), the AAP students’ wing, lost the polls.
“The AAP stands by its promises as long as its political motives are served. If that does not happen, the party forgets its promises and doesn’t shy away from reversing its decisions. Two U-Special bus routes between Hauz Khaz metro station and DU South Campus were flagged off by the then Transport Minister Gopal Rai in 2015 as per the demand of the CYSS. They were withdrawn after the CYSS lost the DUSU elections,” Mr. Gupta said.
He further alleged that the absence of U-Special buses in Delhi rendered the issuance of ₹12.50 concessional passes to students meaningless.
After the CYSS’ loss, Mr. Gupta said, the AAP government had also “forgotten” its promise to open 20 new degree colleges.
“Since most students now travel by metro, which increased its fares in May and will raise them again in October, they should be extended the facility of concessional metro passes,” he said.
