The three-member committee appointed by Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh to probe security lapses at Ryan International School in Bhondsi here has pointed out several shortcomings, such as wrongly angled closed-circuit television cameras, grills missing in toilets, expired fire-fighting equipment, and allowing support staff to share toilets with students, in its report.

According to the two-page report, submitted on Monday, there are a total of 16 CCTV cameras on the school premises and two of them are installed on the iron gates at the entrance to the building. Both the cameras at the entrance are wrongly angled and capture only the back of the people entering the premises, instead of their faces. The report also points out that no CCTV camera was installed to capture the images of those walking towards the toilets. Also, the images captured by some of them are of poor quality, says the report.

No separate toilets

The team during its investigation found that there were no grills in the six ventilators opening in the shaft and anyone could easily enter the toilets through them. No staff was deployed near the toilets to ensure the safety of the junior students.

The school management had claimed that the drivers and the conductors, around 50 of them, used a separate toilet in a farmhouse, but the team found worn-out tyres stored in the said toilet making it unusable for anyone. The report stated that there were no separate toilets for the support staff and they used the toilets meant for students.

Report submitted

Information regarding the police verification of the drivers and the conductors, including the accused, was provided at Sadar police station, said the report.

It, however, pointed out that the management did not share the police verification forms for other support staff. The team, comprising District Education Officer, said that the school had fire-fighting equipment, but they were all expired. The team also found out that the boundary wall of the school was incomplete and there was no ramp.

Mr. Vinay Pratap handed over the report to Director, Haryana Secondary Education Department, for further action as per the Haryana School Education Act.
