Ahead of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting in Guwahati later this week, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to reach out to the Capital’s trader community on Tuesday at an interactive session meant to get feedback on their experiences with the new tax regime.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia said on Monday that Mr. Kejriwal, Tax Department officials and he will speak to about 250 traders.

Mr. Sisodia added that he will raise the issues flagged by the traders at the GST Council meeting on Thursday and Friday in Guwahati.

“I have been asking for reduction of tax rates in GST Council meetings. Many times my demands were reconsidered after there was pressure from society or traders...This time too I will raise the concerns of Delhi’s traders at the meeting,” said the Deputy Chief Minister.

Interactive session

The interactive session on Tuesday will include members of the GST Market Support Committees set up by the government.

The meeting will be held at Ashoka Hotel here, according to a government spokesperson.

“At least 300 traders representing the community have been invited for the event. The Chief Minister and the Delhi Finance Minister will be given a memorandum, in which specific issues will be flagged,” said Brijesh Goyal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party trade wing.

Mr. Goyal added that the scope of work of the Delhi government-constituted GST Committees will also be discussed.

The GST, which unified over a dozen local taxes, was rolled out from July 1. It has a four-tier structure of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%.
