As his co-convicts in the case inched closer to the gallows for showing “depravity in brutalising and killing” the 23-year-old physiotherapy student, the now adult juvenile delinquent is leading a different life — that of a cook in south India.

Nirbhaya’s parents have, for long, demanded that he be punished on similar lines as the others. However, the juvenile delinquent walked out a free man on December 15, 2015, three years after he and the others sent shock waves across the country due to the nature of their crimes.

“Most brutal”

Often portrayed as the “most brutal” of the lot, the non-governmental organisation that rehabilitated him said he was unaware of the latest development. It was during his stay at a correction home in the Capital that he learnt how to cook.

Following the completion of his sentence, a three-year stay at an observation and correction home, the Delhi government shifted the juvenile convict to an undisclosed location.

He was apprehended from Delhi’s Anand Vihar bus terminal by the police after a massive search was initiated for over two days.
