Two persons were arrested while a juvenile was apprehended in connection with over a dozen robbery and snatching cases, reported from north-west district, said the Delhi Police on Monday.

The police said that the accused were involved in at least 16 cases of robbery and snatching. The police came to know of the gang after a cab driver was held hostage and robbed near Mahendra Park on February 12.

“We put special emphasis on criminals who used a two-wheeler during the crime because the victim told us that during the incident, the robbers had followed him on a scooty,” said Aslam Khan, DCP (north-west).

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested two youths from Mahendra Park. Upon their interrogation, the juvenile was apprehended from another location.

School dropouts

Aashiq Hassan, Bunty Kumar and the 16-year-old boy are all school dropouts.

“They have no previous criminal records. During the day, they used to commit snatchings while riding motorcycles that they had lifted. At night, they committed robberies,” said a police official, adding that the accused used to go around in a two-wheeler and target car drivers who had gotten out of their vehicles to relieve themselves on isolated stretches.

The police said that upon sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to the crimes.

“They named other members of their gang and told us that they used to rob car drivers and further, used the vehicles of the victims to commit more robberies. After that they used to abandon the car,” said a senior police official.

The minor used to follow the accused on a two-wheeler. When the accused were done with their robberies, they would dump the car, and all three would abscond on the scooty, said the police.

The police have recovered an SUV, a cab, 11 mobile phones, two toy pistols and three two-wheelers from the accused.
