Cold in the Capital has prompted the Delhi Government to ask all schools, including private and those run by the municipal agencies, to shut down their junior wing from December 26.
The Directorate of Education has issued a circular to all schools, directing them to close their junior wing from Friday for winter vacation. The circular has not disturbed the schedule of any school as most had already scheduled vacations from December 25.
Schools in the National Capital Region, including Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon, have already shut due to the harsh weather conditions. The city has been under the spell of a cold wave for the past five days, with the temperature on Monday — 4.2 degrees Celsius — dropping lower than 6.5 degrees in Shimla.
On Wednesday, the minimum and maximum temperatures settled well below the normal mark. The maximum temperature was recorded three notches below the season’s average at 15.9 degrees and 0.4 degrees less than Tuesday’s maximum, Meteorological Department officials said. The minimum settled three points below the normal and two degrees less than Tuesday’s minimum at 5 degrees Celsius.
“On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 16 and 4 degrees respectively,” said the weatherman.
