The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Friday arrested a person for allegedly supplying illegal arms in the Capital and neighbouring areas.

Tip-off received

Ugara Singh (39), a resident of Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, was nabbed from central Delhi’s Bhairon Marg when he was allegedly going to supply weapons to a gangster. “Based on a tip-off, a team led by Inspector Sunil Kumar laid a trap near Udyan Nursery, Lok Nirman Vibhag, around 9 p.m. and arrested him,” said a senior police officer, adding that 20 semi-automatic pistols were seized from the accused.

A case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against him. The police said Ugara belonged to a gang headed by one Bacchu Singh that had been supplying illegal arms in Delhi-NCR for the past many years.

The weapons are allegedly manufactured in Madhya Pradesh. “The gang members use codes for demarcating the place for delivering the weapons. Some of the codes are ‘Taj Mahal’ for Sarai Kale Khan and ‘Lal Quilla’ for Bhairon Mandir,” said the officer.
