The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Delhi government, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Police on a writ petition seeking immediate ban on slaughter houses allegedly operating illegally in some residential areas of northern part of the Capital.
A Division Bench of the High Court, issuing the notices, asked the authorities to file their replies within two weeks regarding steps taken in the matter. The petitioner, Help Indian Against Corruption, which is a non-government organisation, has sought action against the officials for allegedly permitting animal slaughter in Kasabpura area.
The Bench, comprising Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath, posted the matter for hearing on September 2. The petition claimed that the Court had in 2009 ordered closure of such slaughter houses due to different reasons.
The petition has also sought appointment of an investigating team to probe the alleged involvement of officials and take action against them according to law.
The petitioner’s counsel claimed that the officials had full knowledge of illegal slaughtering of animals in the North Delhi locality.
