While it was not quite at the same level as the mayhem and destruction witnessed in Mumbai recently, the Capital on Thursday had its own brush with sudden and heavy rain that led to massive traffic jams and waterlogging in different parts.
The downpour began after noon and continued until evening, due to which several people leaving from work either got stuck in traffic jams or had to break-journey looking for shelters while waiting for the rain to go away.
Underpass blocked
There was heavy traffic at Pul Prahladpur underpass due to waterlogging in the area. Savitri flyover going towards Nehru Place and Modi Mill u-turn were also jammed. Rajdhani Park towards Mundka and the parallel road both witnessed severe jams post noon.
‘No cabs’
Commuters had a tough time wading through waterlogged stretches across the Capital following incessant rain.
“I had to travel from SDA market to Shahpur Jat but there were no cabs available on Ola. I tried Uber but two drivers cancelled after making me wait for five minutes. I could have easily walked to office in 10 minutes if there was no rain but I was stuck without cabs for quite a while. When I found one, I ended up paying double the usual fare” said Lokesh Dang.
In the evening, M.B. Road to Khanpur was heavily jammed due to waterlogging near Vayusenabad.
Twitter update
There was heavy traffic on Captain Gaur Marg in the carriageway from Moolchand towards Ring Road due to waterlogging, the Delhi Traffic Police said on its Twitter account.
