‘He made us feel uncomfortable’

Kaveri’s mother Rekha said she had not heard from Anil ever since he was sacked last year.

Though he had “behavioural issues”, the family never expected him to attack Kaveri.

Anil had approached the family on Sunday saying he had been hired by one of their neighbours, a claim the police have refuted.

“Anil would interrupt our conversations. He made my daughter and me feel very uncomfortable, which is why I asked him to leave a few days after he was hired. I gave him wages for half-a-month and asked him to stop coming to work,” said Ms. Rekha.

‘Behavioural issues’

Asked if he had resisted then, Ms. Rekha said though he wasn’t happy, he accepted the decision.

Kaveri’s friend Harsh, meanwhile, said Anil’s behaviour was totally unacceptable. “If anything, he went from bad to worse. He would pick fights with people at CNG stations. He paid no heed to any warnings,” said Mr. Harsh.

Asked if Anil had bothered her or her daughter since April last year, Ms. Rekha said she hadn’t heard from him. However, she added that she would confirm with Kaveri once she recovered.

The mother-daughter duo live in a rented accommodation. Kaveri’s father died a few years ago, the police said. According to the police, the family sustains on allowance from Ms. Rekha’s two elder daughters who live abroad.

Kaveri had recently finished a course in fashion designing and was looking for a job, her mother said.
