The fourth Car-Free Day in Gurgaon took off with a cycle rally led by Joint Commissioner of Police, Bharti Arora. Representatives from several corporate houses were also seen cycling and shouting slogans.
The ride that started from Shankar Chowk, went on to Udyog Vihar and then on to the Electronic City. Makemytrip has been supporting this endeavour since last week and has reduced their car service by providing shuttles from metro and encouraging internal car pooling.
The wide roads of electronic city which are normally jam packed with cars were devoid of a single parked car, thanks to Car-Free Tuesday. At Nagarro, employees in reflective jackets were seen creating a human chain for pedestrians and cyclists in the area to commute safely. The roads around HUDA City Centre and Cyber Hub witnessed smooth traffic flow as there was no on-street car parking whereas on other days these stretches have double and triple parked cars choking the roads. The drivers were seen visibly relieved by the hassle-free flow of traffic in all the four corridors. Unitech Cyber Park, a corporate hub has logged an average reduction of incoming cars to about 300 every Tuesday.
