THROUGH THE LENS The government has made PAN cards more accessible to citizens

Some tasks that need interface with the government have become much easier. A few years ago, getting a Permanent Account Number (Pan Card) used to make citizens break out in sweat. Now, it has become a fairly simple process. Those with access to the Internet can submit an application online, upload the documents, make the payment and receive the card at their doorstep. For others, there are entrepreneurs like the one in the photograph above who help to complete the required procedures for a small fee.

Pan cards are available for all citizens, irrespective of age or work status. Though it serves as a good photo identity card, it is a pity that it doesn’t carry the citizen’s residential address and cannot be used as residential proof.
