Aurangzeb Road in Lutyen’s Delhi has now been renamed after the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam after NDMC gave it a nod on August 28, 2015.
Close to midnight, workers engaged by NDMC were seen removing Aurangzeb’s name from the signboards.
NDMC had decided to change the name of the road after three separate proposals, including from two BJP MPs.
The renaming seems to have brought the BJP and the AAP on the same page. CM Kejriwal voted in favour of the name changing.
“Congrats. NDMC jst now decided to rename Aurangzeb Road to APJ Abdul Kalam Road,” Mr. Kejriwal tweeted.
The road is home to some of the most expensive and sought-after real estate in posh Lutyens’ Delhi.
Google Maps already adopted the new name.
The Council decided to honour the late President by renaming the Aurangzeb road.
