A former employee of e-commerce giant Flipkart was among four persons arrested on Sunday for allegedly robbing a fellow employee at gunpoint in south-west Delhi’s Dwarka.
The incident happened on Friday when Sanjeev Kumar, a delivery man with Flipkart’s shipment company Ekart, was going to plot number 8 in a van to deliver a package. The vehicle was being driven by Ram Singh.
In a service lane, four men in a car allegedly intercepted the van.
“The men pulled out the key from the ignition and took our mobile phones. They then pointed guns towards us and asked us to hand over our cash,” said Mr. Kumar.
Murder threat
When the duo did not agree, the gang allegedly threatened to kill them.
“I believe one of them even fired, so I gave them ₹22,800, which is all I had. They also took away the POS machine and the van keys,” said Mr. Kumar. The robbers then fled the spot.
The victims later informed the police and their office with the help of passers-by. Subsequently, a case was registered.
Based on technical surveillance, the police found out that the accused had gone towards Uttam Nagar. The police also recovered a CCTV footage from a kilometre away from the crime spot, which showed the men trying to hide the number plate of their car using mud.
Car owner traced
The vehicle’s owner was traced and identified as Shubham Sharma (21). Based on his investigation, former Ekart employee Manoj alias Aditya (24), Ashish Sharma alias Luv (29) and Dinesh alias Begi (24) were arrested.
The police said they had suspected the involvement of an insider in the robbery since the beginning.
Manoj had allegedly informed Ashish, a wanted criminal, about the victims’ movements. The duo had then roped in the other two to commit the robbery, the police said.
Meanwhile, a Flipkart spokesperson said the company holds quarterly sessions for its delivery boys to inform them about the dos and don’ts in emergency situations.
He also claimed that the company helps the victim till the end of the case.
Resolving complaints
“Flipkart supports the complainant employee in every possible way. It follows up on the FIR till the closure of the case,” said the spokesperson.
Mr. Kumar, however, said although the company authorities had helped him with the registration of the FIR, he hadn’t heard from them since then.
“I had to take a leave for going to court, and now my salary will be deducted,” he said.
The spokesperson, however, claimed that “in certain cases the complainant employee is given leaves for a few days to take rest and recover from the shock”.
