The longest corridor under Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Phase-III will now sport extra long foot overbridges (FOB) and ramps at six of its seven interchange stations. The length of the FOBs and ramps will range between 70 metres and 200 metres and provisions will be made for lifts and escalators wherever required for providing connectivity from concourse to concourse.
The interchange stations on the 56 km corridor will include Azadpur, Netaji Subhash Place, Rajouri Garden, Mayur Vihar 1, Karkarduma, Anand Vihar and Welcome. Since only at Anand Vihar the new station will be adjacent to the operational one, FOBs and ramps will come up in all the remaining stations in order to provide seamless connectivity through paid areas.
“Due to constraints such as the inadequate availability of land near the existing stations and the direction of the alignment, it was very difficult to connect the new stations with the already operational ones,” said a statement from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. “However, keeping in mind the convenience of the commuters, the DMRC engineers have designed these FOBs and ramps which will connect the new and the old stations.”
The length of the FOB or ramp in Azadpur will be 197 metres and will connect the currently operational elevated station on Line 2 (Jahangirpuri – HUDA City Centre) with the upcoming underground station in the new corridor. Similarly, the Netaji Subash Park station will see a 200-metre-long connectivity which will connect the elevated station on Line 1 (Dilshad Garden – Rithala) with the upcoming semi-underground station. The Welcome station also on Line 1 will be connected with upcoming station by a 70-metre-long FOB or ramp.
The existing stations at Rajouri Garden and Mayur Vihar 1 on Line 3 (Dwarka Sec 21 – NOIDA City Centre) will be linked to the new station by a 175-metre-long and 80-metre-long FOB respectively.
In addition, a 101-metre-long FOB will connect the existing Karkarduma station on Line 4 (Dwarka Sec 21– Vaishali) with the upcoming station on the new corridor.
