Five rape cases in Delhi

Eight-year-old girl admitted to hospital with serious injuries

Five cases of rape, including that of an eight-year-old girl who has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries, have been reported from different parts of the Capital in the past few days.

In a gang-rape case, a 25-year-old woman was drugged and then raped by four persons in the Welcome area of North-East Delhi on Tuesday.

The victim recently separated from her husband and had been living alone. While searching for a job, she came across one Yashdev who allegedly called her to a park in Welcome around 7 p.m. on Tuesday on the pretext of introducing her to prospective employers.

The accused met the woman in the park and claimed that his contacts were on the way. He then took her to a car parked nearby. He introduced her to three persons seated inside the vehicle who allegedly offered her cold drinks.

The woman complained of dizziness after consuming the cold drinks. The accused then allegedly pounced on her and in the ensuing scuffle tore her clothes and also assaulted her. Having subdued her, two of them allegedly raped her.

It is alleged that the accused also took the victim to a room where they raped her and then pushed her out of the running car near a garbage dump in Welcome around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. A woman resident saw the victim being thrown out of the vehicle and called up the police control room. Subsequently the victim, who was then in an unconscious state, was taken to GTB Hospital.Three of the accused have been identified as Yashdev, Devender and Vidur Malik. “We have registered a case and arrested Yashdev,” said a police officer.In another incident, an eight-year-old victim who was sent by her mother along with two other girls to get some eatables around 9-30 a.m. on Wednesday went missing. When she did not return, worried family members started searching for her in the area. However, the girl returned home around 12-30 p.m. in an injured condition. The victim told her parents that she was abducted and taken to an isolated place where she was raped by an unknown person. The culprit then dropped her close to her residence and vanished from the scene.

The girl, whose father is a labourer and mother a domestic help, was taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where her condition is stated to be serious. “The victim has sustained internal injuries. Her condition was critical when she was brought to the hospital, but now she is stable and recuperating,” said a police officer. The police have registered a rape case and are trying to identify the culprit.In another case, a sex worker was gang-raped by three young men at Kusumpur Pahari in South Delhi on Tuesday night. The three accused have been arrested.

According to the police, the woman was picked up from near a cinema hall by two young men. They took her to Kusumpur Pahari where their accomplice joined them. The woman offered resistance, following which they allegedly assaulted the woman and then raped her.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the police have registered a case and arrested the three accused, including one Dheeraj. “We tracked down the accused persons within three hours,” said a police officer.

In another case, a 14-year-old girl was raped by a minor boy at knifepoint at Gokalpuri in the trans-Yamuna area on Sunday night. The incident took place when the victim returned home the next day and told her parents that she was abducted by the boy, taken to an isolated place near the Wazirabad flyover and raped by the juvenile. He has been detained by the police.In New Ashok Nagar, two siblings accused a minor cousin of having raped them in October. Based on their complaint, the police have detained the juvenile.
