Delhi University (DU) announced its much-awaited admission schedule for undergraduate courses on Saturday. Like last year, the process will be completely online with the portal — ug.du.ac.in — to be opened on May 22.

Online registrations will close on June 12, with the first cut-off list to be announced on June 20.

This year, DU will release six cut-off lists. The last cut-off list will be announced on July 18, while the session will begin on July 20. The admission process is expected to close by August 16.

Online process

The university said that merit-based admission will be offered on the basis of Class XII Board examination marks, with all applicants required to register on the DU portal. Students applying under Extra Curricular Activity (ECA) quota, Sports quota, Persons with Disabilities (PWD) quota, Kashmiri Migrant (KM) quota, Armed Forces (AF) quota and SC/ST/OBC quota will also have to apply online.

Also, the university informed that after the first six lists are announced on June 20, June 24, July 1, July 7, July 13 and July 18, more cut-off lists may be released depending on the number of vacant seats in colleges.

Online registration fee for admission to undergraduate courses for general and OBC students is ₹150. This fee is non-refundable. For, SC/ST/PwD students, the registration fee is ₹75. Further, those applying under the Sports and ECA quota will have to pay an additional ₹Rs. 100.

The registration fee will have to be paid while registering online. Registration will be confirmed only after payment of the fee. Once registered, applicants can apply to as many courses of their choice.

Maharaj K. Pandit, chairman of DU’s Admission Committee, told journalists that a number of changes had been made to the online application procedure after considering the feedback received last year, which is when the process went online for the first time.

‘Fully prepared’

This time, Mr. Pandit said, the university was well-equipped with more dedicated servers to handle the online traffic.

Last year, many applicants had complained that the website kept crashing while they filled the form.

He added that students would also be required to fill in their Board examination number in the form, which will prevent people from registering more than once.

In fact, marks of students who appeared for the CBSE Class XII exams will be uploaded automatically onto the system. With this, DU is looking to address the issue of students submitting fake or forged mark sheets.

This year, the number of seats for undergraduate admission has increased by 2,000 seats, thanks to the introduction of new courses.

The university said that by Monday afternoon, all information with details of new courses, information about existing courses and other admission related rules will be put up on the DU website.
