A fire broke out in a chemistry laboratory of the Indian Institute of Technology in South Delhi on Monday morning. However, no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to fire officials, the blaze was reported from the chemistry laboratory adjacent to a hostel on the campus. “We received a call at 11-25 a.m. that a fire had broken out in a high-rise building on the campus. Five fire tenders were pushed into service to douse the fire and the blaze was brought under control within an hour,” said a Fire Department official.
Fire officials said it was a low-density fire.
People in the vicinity of the campus said they heard the sound of a cylinder blast. Later it was found that the fire started from the chemistry lab because of some chemical reaction.
The building was immediately vacated and no one received injuries in the incident. Some of the laboratory apparatus was destroyed. The loss has not been estimated so far.
