Fight fresh polls, BJP MLA challenges CM

Tells Kejriwal to ‘stop hiding’ behind claims of EVM tampering

BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Saturday challenged Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to contest fresh elections in the Capital to get a sense of “public anger” against him instead of blaming Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Instead of attempting to “seek cover” behind allegations of EVM tampering, Mr. Sirsa said that Mr. Kejriwal should “respect the mandate of the people”.

“I challenge Mr. Kejriwal to get the results of 40 EVMs in Goa, 33 in Punjab and those which were used in the Rajouri Garden bypoll tallied with VVPAT machines. If he still has doubts about their efficiency, I challenge him to fresh elections in which ballot papers can be used,” the Rajouri Garden MLA said at a press conference.

The BJP MLA alleged that the reason behind Mr. Kejriwal's “growing unpopularity” was not defective EVMs but his “failure to effectively confront” the problems of Delhiites.

“Mr. Kejriwal should either accept my challenge or stop blaming EVMs. He would be better advised to address water and power scarcity problems in Delhi instead of blaming (EVM) machines,” he added.
