An inebriated man allegedly attacked a family of three with a chemical outside their house in Vishnu Garden area of west Delhi’s Khyala on Sunday. The attack followed the family’s objection to the accused, Ragho, drinking outside their residence.

Sustain burns

The victims, a man and his two minor daughters, have sustained 10% to 30% burns. They were taken to Safdarjung Hospital and discharged after treatment.

“Deepak told us that they were getting ready to attend a marriage when a man consuming liquor came and stood in front of their door. He asked him to go away, but the man went on to misbehave. He ran away when the neighbours came,” said a senior police officer.

The officer added that the man returned after 15 minutes and proceeded to throw a chemical on Deepak and his daughters.

The police were then informed and a case was registered.

“During investigation, it was presumed that he was a labourer. The area was cordoned off and labourers, as well as tenants and servants, were interrogated. More than 200 people were questioned. CCTV footage was also analysed. A total of nine teams were looking into the matter. When one team reached Khyala village where some tenants lived, one man tried to hide under a blanket,” said the officer.

Accused arrested

Around the same time, Deepak arrived at the spot with another team and identified the man.

“After sustained interrogation, the man admitted to his crime and said that he did it under the influence of alcohol. The accused, who has been arrested, had bought the chemical from a steel/nickel buffing factory where he worked,” said the police officer.
