The DMRC will run 80 additional trips on Line 3 (Dwarka to Noida) for the duration of the India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan here starting this Thursday.

According to DMRC officials, the average ridership on the metro during the fair so far has gone up and with the opening of the new Yamuna Bank-Noida section the passenger load on the system has also increased.

To meet this growing passenger load, the DMRC will increase the frequency of trains to make it possible for the existing trains on Line 3 to make 80 additional trips.

“The frequency will be increased from four and a half minutes to about three minutes and we will also increase the peak time by four hours. The peak hours are generally between 8 a.m. and 12 noon and between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., but for the duration of the trade fair the peak hours will be between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

For the convenience of the passengers now the DMRC will also open 44 additional token sale counters and all manual counters will be earmarked for particular destination and denomination of token.

“To avoid intermingling of passengers and to control the crowds, all tokens will be sold from the ground floor only. No tokens will be sold from concourse level. Additional Customer Facilitation Agents will be deployed at stations like Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate for guiding and managing crowds in the ticketing area,” the spokesperson said.

Extra security personnel will be deployed at platforms, gates, escalators, lifts and token counters at Pragati Maidan station. For every token counter there will be one security guard to streamline and control the crowds. “Directional signage indicating way towards platforms, tokens, entry/exit, security messages, system maps, fare charts, passenger information, last train and token timings, time of opening of counters, etc., will be made on sun board, flex and digital and put up at required locations once the token vending counters are made.”

Passenger amenities such as mobile toilet vans and water tankers will be placed towards the IITF entrance in coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Jal Board.

The IITF tickets will be sold from all metro stations and a Rs.10 discount will be given on the purchase of every ticket.
