‘Extend exemptions for illegal colonies’

November 21, 2017 01:50 am | Updated 01:50 am IST - New Delhi

The Delhi unit of the BJP has appealed to the Centre to extend exemptions granted to “illegal constructions” in the city till December 31, 2020, under the NCT of Delhi (Special Laws Provision) Act, 2014.

The Centre should also direct the Delhi government and the municipal corporations to complete the process of regularisation of unauthorised colonies by June 2020, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said.

“Neither did the Delhi government try to take steps to regularise unauthorised colonies nor did it persuaded the Urban Development Ministry to exempt the affected people,” Mr. Kapoor said. Rules on use of land and buildings here should be amended to suit the aspirations of the people so that there are legal constructions in Delhi in future, he said.

He has written to the Union Urban Development Minister and the Lieutenant-Governor alleging that government officials were threatening people with demolitions in January.
