Employee attempts to extort Rs.25 crore from billionaire

Within three days of receiving a complaint regarding Avantha Group founder Gautam Thapar being asked to shell out Rs.25 crore as protection money, the special cell of Delhi Police has arrested one of his employees and an accomplice.

The police first nabbed DTC contractual driver Deepak Kishore and then Jaspal Singh, the corporate affairs head Ballarpur Industries Limited.

Both had worked together earlier. “Jaspal was aware of the Group’s corporate dealings and knew that the sale of a power plant had brought in Rs.4,200 crore,” said a police officer
