A group of robbers barged into the house of an elderly woman, held her hostage at knifepoint, and robbed jewellery worth a few thousands from their house in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri.

CCTV footage

Raunak Afroza (62), who was stabbed when she tried to resist the robbery, has filed a police complaint. The police have recovered some CCTV footage to identify the robbers.

According to the complaint by the 62-year-old, four men entered her house late on Monday night through the back door on the ground floor. Ms. Afroza told the police that she and her two grandsons were asleep in one room on the first floor when she heard someone in the room.

Her daughter-in-law Farida was sleeping in the adjacent room on the same floor.

Loses tooth

The elderly woman woke up and raised an alarm, but the robbers held her at knifepoint and threatened to kill the children if she continued to call for help. The robbers then took some of the money kept in a cupboard.

While they were leaving, Ms. Afroza tried to stop them. However, one of the robbers gagged her and punched on the jaw, due to which the elderly woman lost a tooth. Her daughter-in-law Farida, who was sleeping in the adjacent room, came running to the room and was attacked by the robbers.

The robbers threatened the family with dire consequences before fleeing.
