January 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:07 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The first batch of post-graduate students will walk through the gates of Swami Dayanand Hospital in July, when the East Delhi Municipal Corporation will launch its Diplomate of National Board (DNB) course.

EDMC Commissioner Amit Yadav said the civic body has applied to the Medical Council of India for the necessary permissions to start the course.

“We should be starting the course in July this year. In addition, we have added many facilities at the hospital, including a 120-bedded maternity wing,” said Mr. Yadav.

The post-graduate course, which is under the Union Health Ministry’s National Board of Examinations, will have 10 seats for now. Two candidates each will study anaesthesiology, medicine, surgery, paediatrics and gynaecology. Meanwhile, Mr. Yadav said the use of mobile health vans of the EDMC will be made more transparent.

“The daily routes of the vans will be put on our website so that locals can see when it will be in their area,” said Mr. Yadav.
