Five thousand new flats for slum residents and allocation of land for 50 mohalla clinics were among the proposals cleared by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) on Tuesday.
At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the DUSIB approved the construction of 5,012 flats at an estimated cost of ₹654.33 crore, as per a government statement.
In-situ policy
These flats would be under the DUSIB’s in-situ rehabilitation policy, whereby permanent housing would be constructed on the site where the slums are located.
Of the 5,012 flats, a total of 3,780 apartments would be made at Pocket-F in Bhalswa-Jahangirpuri at a cost of ₹493.40 crore. A total of 784 flats would be made at Dev Nagar in Karol Bagh at a cost of ₹102.28 crore. Another 448 flats would be constructed at Kasturba Niketan in Lajpat Nagar at a cost of ₹58.65 crore. Each of the buildings would be 14-floors tall. The DUSIB will ask the government for ₹500 crore to get the project started.
In addition, the DUSIB ratified a decision to allocate land for the setting up of 50 mohalla clinics at different slum clusters.
Budget presented
At the meeting, a budget worth ₹381.47 crore for the current fiscal was presented. Of that, ₹165.72 crore would be for non-plan expenditure and ₹215.75 crore would be for plan expenditure, which would include the construction of public utility complexes and night shelters.
The DUSIB also approved the establishment of early childhood care and education centres by allotting 10 Basti Vikas Kendras to Ambedkar University.
