After the Delhi University, a heritage commission has now opposed the proposed 14-storey residential project of the DMRC near the metro station in the North Campus, saying it would lead to traffic snarls there.
Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) chairman K. T. Ravindran has written a letter to the Delhi Metro asking it to reconsider its decision to construct the ambitious housing complex saying it would put pressure on the infrastructure and the traffic system in the area.
The project is before consideration of the DUAC for its approval.
DU Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental had earlier resisted the project. He had written to DDA saying that the building will be totally out of character with the University’s ambiance.
“I agree with the Vice Chancellor’s views. The site is inappropriate and it will lead to traffic chaos in the area. We already have a huge traffic problem,” Mr. Ravindran told PTI.
Presently the site allotted by the DDA is being used for parking purpose by the DMRC.
The Delhi Metro has plans to build the building next to a 3.05 hectare plot near the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station for property development and has said that it will have only 140-odd flats and will not affect the University’s serenity.
“As for traffic, provision of parking will be taken care of during construction,” the DMRC has said.
