An event called ‘ DU Ke Mann Ki Baat ’ was organised outside Vishwavidyalaya metro station near Delhi University’s North Campus on Friday.
It offered students a platform to raise their voice against on-campus violence and saw nearly 100 students participating.
“Since the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) took control of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in the last two to three years, there have been several disruptions in seminars and cultural performances on the campus. Maybe that’s how the DUSU wants to divert attention from its failure as an elected body. We organised this programme to provide a space to all those students whose voices have been stifled in recent times,” said Prashant Mukherjee, an organiser.
The event began with a street play by Ankur, the theatre society of SGTB Khalsa College, which was followed by poetry recitals. Bali Singh, a professor at Kirori Mal College, later said, “Educational campuses are essentially secular and democratic. That essence must be protected at any cost,” said Professor Singh.
