Don’t play politics, CM to bureaucrats

April 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:02 am IST - New Delhi:

Speaking on the occasion of the Civil Services Day on Tuesday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal cautioned bureaucrats against playing politics as his government is going to be “here for 10-15 years”. Unhappy with the treatment meted out to the officials, some said that the trust deficit between the government and bureaucrats reflects on Mr. Kejriwal and not on them.

In India, Civil Services Day is celebrated because it was on this day that Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the then Home Minister, addressed the first batch of civil servants at Metcalf House where he referred to civil servants as the ‘steel frame of India’.

“But from Steel Frame of India, we are told that we are irrelevant; even termed as B-team of the BJP,” said a Delhi government official. Another official said, “Mr. Kejriwal chose the wrong day. He sounded very arrogant.”
