The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has decided to set up RO plants and water dispensing units based on the model of the resettlement colony - Savda Ghevra - across various places in the Capital. This was decided at a meeting of the board on Wednesday in the presence of the new vice-chairman, Dinesh Mohaniya.
“To supplement the potable water supply in water-deficit areas, an innovative pilot project was implemented at Savda Ghevra based on the RO technology and decentralised water dispensing units,” a statement from the DJB said.
“The project was well received by the residents and had earned appreciation from the Queen of the Netherlands on her visit to Delhi. Encouraged by the success of the model, it was decided to replicate it in other parts, including unauthorised colonies and JJ clusters of Khyala, Vishnu Garden, Patelnagar, Ranjit Marg, Narayan Vihar, Mahipalpur Dabas, Nithari, Burari, Jindpur, Ibrahimpur, Shadipur, Okhla Vihar, Hamidpur, Bahrauli, Tikrikhurd and Bindapuri,” it said.
At the meeting, the board gave approval to the work of laying water pipelines of varying diameters in Begumpur extension, Rajeev Nagar at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.82 crore. The board also approved the work of laying water distribution system in Begumpur extension and Begum Vihar. The board has given its nod to the proposal of the construction of an eight million gallon per day waste water pumping station on the premises of the existing Ghitorni Wastewater Treatment Plant.
With the mandate of bringing more households in the piped water supply ambit, the board has approved the proposal of laying water distribution system in Batla House - an unauthorised colony registered under the Okhla constituency. Presently, the water is provided to this unauthorised colony through water tankers and tube wells. The estimated cost of laying the internal water pipelines is Rs. 5.00 crore.
