A 25-year-old Delhi Traffic Police constable was allegedly run over by a young man driving a car following an argument over a route diversion near Zakhira Flyover on Saturday evening. A police officer said the incident took place around 7-30 p.m. when Mana Ram was on duty near the Zakhira Flyover.

“He saw the car coming from the direction of Punjabi Bagh and moving towards the flyover to the Anand Parbat side, and he signalled them to take the diverted route,” he said.

“The car driver Ramakant and the occupants entered into an argument with him,” said the officer. It is alleged that those in the car abused the constable before ramming the car into him.

According to the police, due to the impact the victim was thrown on to the bonnet of the car. “He hung on to the edge of the bonnet, the wipers and the side view mirror till he was thrown off the car 150 metres down the road. The injuries he sustained were grievous and ultimately proved fatal,” the officer added.

The three persons in the car were booked for murder.
