The Delhi Government on Thursday sought cooperation in key areas of infrastructure, solid waste management and cleaning of rivers from Tokyo. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made this request to a delegation from the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly which met him here.
The delegation was led by the chairperson of the Association of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Members, Osamu Yoshiwara, while Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Delhi Dialogue Commission vice-chairperson Ashish Khetan were present at the interaction.
Mr. Kejriwal told the delegation that just like relations between India and Japan go back in history, the relationship between Delhi and Tokyo was also quite old. He sought investments from Japan in Delhi and laid emphasis on having a fruitful relationship in future.
According to official sources, the Tokyo delegation expressed its willingness to work together with the Delhi Government for resolving problems in the areas of concern, such as environment, water and sewerage.
“We can have exchange programme between the two cities to take it further,” said Mr. Osamu. He also wanted Delhi to help Tokyo in conserving heritage for the next generation.
Mr. Sisodia suggested launching of an exchange programme for school teachers between the two cities. “Teachers of subjects like science from Tokyo can come to teach at Delhi schools for a couple of months and vice-versa,” he said.
The delegation later met Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.
It has sought Japanese expertise in infrastructure, solid waste management and cleaning of rivers
