Security was beefed up in the Capital after the low-intensity blast in Bengaluru on Sunday night.
While Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Monday asserted that the Capital is on high alert after the Bengaluru blast, there is no immediate threat and people don’t need to panic. However, he requested the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
He said: “Counter-terror arrangements have been tightened in the Capital. Local police have been briefed to be alert at all times. Crime Branch and Special Cell counter terror units have been asked to activate their sources and keep and eye on any suspicious activity going on in the city.”
“Public should also be alert and in case someone notices suspicious activity, they should call at the terror unit’s helpline number 1090,” he added.
Security has been tightened mainly in market areas and tourist places like Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place, Red Fort, Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and Karol Bagh.
Meanwhile, the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) have been put on high alert at the airport and metro stations across the Capital.
“We have been maintaining high security in the Capital ahead of Republic Day. After the Bangalore blast, arrangements have been spruced up even more. At the airport, mandatory checking is being one at the entry gates,” said a senior CISF official.
The security agency has also asked its troops to undertake the ‘secondary point ladder checking’ in case of a suspicious activity or passenger. It is done after a passenger crosses the initial security checking and is just about to board the aircraft.
