Adding yet another feather to its cap, Delhi Metro has bagged the honour of ‘Most Improved Metro’ at the 3rd Metro Awards ceremony in London.

DMRC Managing Director E. Sreedharan was also given a special mention for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Urban Transport Industry’ during the awards ceremony held on March 23 at London’s Victoria Park Plaza.

The award ceremony was attended by over 250 delegates from 70 Metro companies from 40 countries around the world, a DMRC spokesman said.

The awards, instituted by London—based event management firm Terrapinn, recognises leaders, innovators, creative talents and pioneers in the global Metro rail industry.

The main objective of the awards is to reward those Metros which have demonstrated “an unparallelled ability to succeed” in running Metro systems.

London Metro got the ‘Best Metro in Europe’ award, while the Singapore Metro system bagged the ‘Best Metro in Asia Pacific’ award. Copenhagen Metro got an award for the ‘Best Driverless Metro’

These awards are given for celebrating excellence in the mass transit industry, the spokesman said.
