After Mumbai, it was the turn of donors in the Capital to enjoy a meal with Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal. The fund raising lunch held at the party’s home turf of Delhi brought Rs.50 lakh to the party coffers.
The event was organised by the party’s traders’ wing at an upmarket restaurant in Connaught Place on Sunday. As many as 125 guests were in attendance, most of them traders from different parts of the Capital.
“This was the first in the series of fund-raiser programmes. Initial collections from Sunday’s programme were more than Rs.50 lakh. Names of all donors along with the amount donated by them will be displayed on the party website,” said the party in a statement.
A party leader said that the process of putting the names of the donors could take a day or two and would be automatically uploaded as the cheques are cashed in.
And playing the perfect host to his traders guest, the former Chief Minister promised rationalisation of Value Added Tax in Delhi by reducing it on goods on which it is higher in comparison to other States, particularly the neighbouring States.
The trading community has been making similar demands for quite some time and Mr. Kejriwal had made similar promises at the launch event of the traders’ wing as well.
“VAT rationalisation will help the consumers and traders, both of whom are unhappy with the way this tax is being currently calculated in an arbitrary manner,” said Mr. Kejriwal.
He said that his vision was to make the Capital a trading powerhouse.
