The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday said that it had issued notices to Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development (DSIIDC), commissioner of North Delhi Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Police on the Bawana factory fire that killed 17 people on Saturday.
Seeking detailed information on the licence granted to the factory and officers responsible for the same, the commission has given the authorities one week to reply.
Suo motu cognisance
Taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, the DCW said that it was a “serious issue” as the fire had claimed the lives of 10 women.
In the notice to DSIIDC, the women’s commission sought details of the officers who were responsible to ensure that the factory was abiding by the terms and conditions of the allotment.
The letter dated January 21 read, “Please provide details of complaints regarding operation of illegal factories in Bawana area since 2016 till date and action taken on the same.”
Meanwhile, the north corporation has been asked to provide details on the licence granted to the factory. “Did this ‘factory’ have any valid licence? If yes please provide a copy of the same,” said the letter.
The commission has asked the Delhi Police to provide information on whether there are existing complaints against the factory.“How were firecrackers being produced in the factory without the knowledge of the police,” asked the letter.
