Investigation into the violence on the Delhi University campus has been transferred to the Crime Branch. This, even as the police have come under the scanner for alleged inaction.
“The Crime Branch, henceforth, will investigate the case,” said Delhi Police spokesperson Dependra Pathak.
Written complaints given
A case has been registered under provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that pertain to assault, wrongful restraint, rioting, preventing a government servant from discharging duty, among others. The police also said that some women protesters had submitted written complaints.
“As many as 25 people were injured, which included students, the ABVP and policemen,” said DCP (North) Jatin Narwal. The police, who said that the ABVP activists had filed a complaint alleging that anti-national slogans were raised during the protests, did not clarify on whose order the lathicharge was carried out on students.
