Two young cousins were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Rohini here on Sunday night. The police said on Monday that they are probing all possibilities.
The tragedy came to light around 9 p.m. when a passer-by noticed a man lying unconscious near a car parked close to the local police station. Another man lay in a similar condition on the passenger seat. “The area Station House Officer reached there along with his subordinates. The two were still alive when they were removed from the spot. They were rushed to Jaipur Golden Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival,” said a police officer, adding a liquor bottle was found inside the vehicle.
The deceased were identified as Rohini resident Vijay Garg, 36, and Paschim Vihar resident Suresh Gupta, 35.
Their families initially learnt that they had been taken to the hospital in a serious condition. When they reached there, they found that both had died.
Enquiries by the police revealed that Vijay ran a dry fruit business at Khari Baoli in the Walled City and Suresh was engaged in the iron trade. “Suresh visited his cousin on weekends. On Sunday he, along with his wife, mother and two children, had gone to Jaipur Golden Hospital to see a relative who had recently given birth. Thereafter, he dropped his family at Vijay's residence in the evening. His house is located near the hospital,” said the officer.
Suresh and Vijay then went out in his car on some pretext. Preliminary police investigations suggested that they parked the car near the area police station and were consuming liquor when one of them got off, vomited by the roadside and passed out.
The family members suspect they may have been poisoned. “The relatives have not named anyone so far. The initial post-mortem report has not given a clear picture and hence we are awaiting the viscera report to ascertain the exact cause of death. The liquor found inside the car has also been sent to the forensic science laboratory to find out if it contains poison,” the officer added.
