In a bizarre turn to the alleged attempts by the police not to allow a pregnant girl to marry her boyfriend, the girl on Friday informed the Delhi High Court that she had not promised to marry him.
She further said that she wanted to stay with her real mother who lives in Uttar Pradesh.
At present, she is staying with her step mother at Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar in West Delhi. Her father has two wives.
After talking to her in the chamber, Justice S. N. Dhingra asked the Uttam Nagar police to visit the residence of the girl's step mother daily to inquire about her well being. The Bench further said the police would escort the girl to her real mother whenever she desired to shift there.
Observing that it was not a rape case as alleged by the police but a case of love affair, the Bench asked the boy, who is at present lodged in the Tihar Central Jail here, to apply for bail.
Justice S. N. Dhingra later disposed of the matter.
Justice Dhingra had on Thursday blasted the Delhi Police for not providing protection to the girl against alleged torture by her step mother and sending the boy to jail leaving the girl in the lurch.
The Court had also pulled up the police for not providing protection to young couples against ‘honour killing'.
The matter was brought to the notice of the High Court by the Delhi Legal Services Authority.
