Measures to stop mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of dengue and malaria this monsoon seem to be inadequate as the number of cases continue to rise. The Opposition Congress in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday hit out against the BJP-led civic body’s “failure” to control vector-borne diseases.
Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Goel said: “The measures to prevent dengue and malaria from spreading have failed. This is evident in the number of cases being reported in North Delhi.”
As of August 29, Delhi’s three municipalities had registered 645 and 29 cases of dengue and malaria respectively. Of that, 352 dengue cases were reported in the North Corporation’s area. Mr. Goel said the North Corporation’s claims of spraying anti-larva chemicals and fogging have turned out to be hollow.
A total of 831 cases of dengue have been recorded as on August 29 and 760 of them are Delhi-based patients
