The Delhi Police on Tuesday said they had constituted a committee in each of the 13 police districts in the city to promote interaction between officers and the public.
The committees have been formed on the direction of Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, and is chaired by the respective MPs. Each panel includes members of the Assembly, the Deputy Revenue Commissioner and the Deputy Police Commissioner concerned, and the chairman of the MCD zonal committee.
Common problems
“The committees also consist of members of residents’ welfare associations, traders’ bodies, educational institutions, women’s organisations and labour units,” said Delhi Police spokesperson Madhur Verma.
Last month, meetings had been held in the south-east, west, north-west, Rohini, north-east and Shahdara districts to discuss key issues.
According to Mr. Verma, the common problems raised during the meetings were traffic congestion, unauthorised parking, consumption of liquor at public places, encroachments along pavements, lack of security in schools, thefts, etc. The Hindu had recently reported how public representatives were upset over the confusion following the scrapping of thana-level committees.
