November 21, 2014 08:22 am | Updated 08:22 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Upset over being constantly harassed for marriage by a man, an 18-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at Naraina in South-West Delhi on Thursday.

The victim hung herself with a dupatta inside her house. She left behind a suicide note in which she named one Subhash, his father Ram Kishore Yadav and his friend Anil as those whose harassment had compelled her to take the extreme step.

FIR filed

The police said the man was arrested on Tuesday on the basis of an FIR filed by the girl and her parents. Subhash had been booked for criminal assault and criminal intimidation following which he was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

According to the police, Subhash (23), a truck driver, had been harassing the victim, a Class XII student. He reportedly manhandled her in front of her house and also held her hand in a busy market place on several occasions. The girl had approached the police and a case of assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty was registered.
